Lin-Si Lo Han is Tired of the Name Jokes

By Editor | August 31, 2007

Austin, TX - It’s hard to attend an institute of higher education in a foreign country, thousands of miles from your family. But to do so amid constant name-calling and jokes can be nothing short of overwhelming.

Lin-Si Lo HanSuch is the case with Lin-Si Lo Han, a UT freshman exchange student from Yangshuo, China.

According to Lo Han, people are constantly making fun of her name, which — when pronounced quickly — sounds much like “Lindsay Lohan.”

“Some people are genuinely confused,” Lo Han explained. “Maybe they hear of Lindsay Lohan but don’t know what she look like, so they think I am her. I told my name to bank teller once, and she said, ‘Hang in there sweetie. Don’t let those tabloids get you down.’ I get mad and say, I’m not Lindsay Lohan … I’m Lin-Si Lo Han. Jeez lady!”

But as it turns out, the people who honestly mistake Lo Han for the troubled celebrity are not nearly as bad as those who intentionally make fun of her name. Many of Lo Han’s classmates make jokes about her skipping rehab to attend classes, rooming with Paris Hilton, and other poor attempts at humor, all at the expense of Lo Han herself.

When Miss Lo Han contacted us to share her plight, our hearts went out to her. So to help set the record straight for those who honestly mistake the two women, we have created the following fact sheet that clearly differentiates Lin Si Lo Han from Lindsay Lohan.

Lin-Si Lo Han   Lindsay Lohan

For those who would knowingly poke fun at Lo Han because of her name, we have only to remind you of the Eddie Amin incident of 1981, in which a U.S. postal employee assaulted coworkers for continually calling him Idi Amin.
